OLYMPIACOS U19 3–0 OFI — KALAITZIDIS LEADS THE RESPONSE

There was very little ambiguity about the way Olympiacos U19 responded to last weekend’s setback.

Three minutes. That was all it took for the champions’ academy side to get ahead against OFI.

Venetis delivered the cutback and Kalaitzidis finished first time for 1–0. Nine minutes later, the combination reversed: Kalaitzidis supplied Venetis, who made it 2–0.

By that point the game had effectively been tilted decisively toward Olympiacos. The third arrived shortly after halftime when Kalaitzidis was fouled inside the area and converted the penalty himself.

For a youth side coming off a 3–1 defeat at Volos, the important part was not merely winning.

It was the reaction. Olympiacos started aggressively rather than carrying the previous result into the next match. The opening goal after three minutes immediately changed the psychology of the game, while the second forced OFI to chase from an uncomfortable position and Kalaitzidis is becoming particularly worth tracking.

He also scored Olympiacos’ only goal in the defeat at Volos last weekend. That gives him three goals across the last two league matches, with Saturday’s performance adding an assist as well.

Venetis’ involvement was equally notable. A goal and an assist from a wide or advancing defensive position is precisely the kind of two-way contribution Olympiacos’ development pathway increasingly demands. The wider significance is simple: Olympiacos’ academy remains expected to produce players capable of eventually moving upward, not merely win youth matches.

After the recent renewals of several U23 players and the continued emphasis on the academy pathway, performances like this are useful signals.

Not proof of senior readiness, but signals. Saturday belonged to Kalaitzidis.
