This move makes considerably more sporting sense than keeping Koutsidis in Piraeus as depth. Center-back development is especially dependent on minutes. Training against Olympiacos' first-team attackers is useful.
Playing competitive senior football every weekend is better.
Braunschweig gives Koutsidis an environment where physical duels, aerial contests, defensive transitions and pressure around the penalty area will occur constantly. The 2. Bundesliga is a very good finishing school for a young defender.
For Olympiacos, the key detail is the structure. German reporting says there is a large purchase option rather than simply a temporary developmental loan with no financial consequence. That means Koutsidis' performances could create a decision next summer: bring back a more experienced defender,
or monetize the development if Braunschweig decide to activate their option. Either outcome can benefit Olympiacos.
